Marine scientist Ocean Ramsey says she’s not shaken by the viral video of her nearly throwing a dive boat off Hawaii into the open jaws of a surfacing tiger shark.

“I was actually laugh” Ramsey told 9 News. “We were so happy to see her back in the water and just thankful she was there.”

In a video posted on Instagram, Ramsey prepares to enter the water in scuba gear when a shark surfaces beneath her fins.

“We laughed and fell into the water with these misunderstood apex predators to conduct our routine research and gather more footage for our conservation efforts,” photographer Juan Oliphant told Fox News.

Oliphant wrote on Instagram that the shark known as “Queen Nikki” was probably more interested in the fish hiding under their boat.

“Tiger Shark Queen Nikki, also known as Ali Nicole, is one of our favorite sharks,” Oliphant wrote, calling the encounter “extremely exciting.”

Ramsey told Fox News that she had known Queen Nicki for almost 20 years.

“They are wild animals“, Ramsey told Today about her close encounter. “They are apex predators, but they are not monsters.”
