Burbank, California – The Walt Disney Company announced late Sunday that the former CEO Bob Iger would return to lead the company for two years, surprising the entertainment industry.
Disney said Bob Chapek, who succeeded Iger in 2020 he resigned.
“The committee came to the conclusion that as Disney begins an increasingly complex period of industrial transformation, Bob Iger is uniquely positioned to lead the company through this critical period,” said Chairman Susan Arnold in a statement from Disney.
Arnold thanked Czapek for his service, including during the “unprecedented challenges of the pandemic.”
Iger managed Disney by acquiring entertainment companies Lucasfilm, Pixar, Marvel and Fox and launching Disney Plus.
Earlier this month Disney posted lower-than-expected fourth-quarter results.
